SWAT Kats Official Style Guidebook

The following is the official Hanna-Barbera Style Guidebook for SWAT Kats: The Radical Squadron, used for internal reference during show production.

One of the rarest show items…

SWAT Kats Style GuidebookLoaned to SWATKATS.info by Dominick DeSantis, this Production Style Guidebook has only been partially seen on the internet. Fragmented copies and low-resolution scans were made available to Strike's SWAT Kats Zone in the mid 90s, and have become iconic imagery that were an integral part of the early fandom's internet experience.

Now, 30 years after the series first aired, this Style Guidebook is finally available in its entirety and in high resolution, showing this item in detail that has never been seen before by the public.

Special thanks again goes to Dominic DeSantis who managed to get ahold of this item from a prominent former member of the SWAT Kats production team who has chosen to remain anonymous.

The Guidebook

The book is a customized three-ring binder with a heavy glossy exterior that has sweeping clasps that meet in the front and are secured by a Velcro dot. Underneath is the cover that shows the SWAT Kats fighter pilot helmet with oxygen mask imagery.

Custom dividers separate each section, with tabs that match the triangular SWAT Kats icon.

The book contains 69 pages of content, ranging from explanations of the show's premise, tone and characters, to detailed illustrations, size comparisons, example scenes and extensive suggested marketing implementations.

Television's Lance Falk wrote the content for this package, and SWAT Kats co-creator Christian Tremblay is responsible for the artwork. Tremblay's experience as an artist who, prior to SWAT Kats, worked on licensed WB clothing designs for characters is especially apparent in the marketing section.
